I am honored to announce that I was selected as a 2019 Tillman Scholar. Tillman Scholars are military veterans and spouses with a high potential for impact as demonstrated through a proven track record of leadership, the continued pursuit of education and the commitment of their resources to service beyond self. This year there were over 2300 qualified active duty military members, veterans, and spouses who applied for this competitive award, and I was one of the 60 selected. I am very grateful for this scholarship, the opportunity to join the community of Tillman Scholars, and to carry on Pat Tillman’s legacy.
I will be receiving a generous financial scholarship for the next two years to assist with my academic expenses while studying to become a Family Nurse Practitioner at the UCSF School of Nursing. The Pat Tillman Foundation will also be flying me out to Chicago next month for the annual Leadership Summit, a three-day event celebrating the values of the foundation and fostering collaboration between the scholars. It serves as an orientation for the newest class of Tillman Scholars and a networking and community-building opportunity for scholars returning from previous years. Each day features inspiring keynote speakers, engaging panels and dynamic peer workshops. I am looking forward to creating new friendships and networking within a community of high-performing, like-minded peers. It’s time to make my impact!
